Biographical notes

Harry Ferguson was 39 years old, married to Edith, with two children and working as a clerk when he enlisted on 17 August, 1918. He gave his permanent address as Trenery Crescent, Abbotsford and it is possible thta this was his workplace.

He was sent to Broadmeadows Camp for training as part of the 16th General (Victorian) Reinforcements and embarked on 7 November 1918 from Sydney, on board SS Carpentaria. It is not clear how far he had travelled before the news of the ending of the war on 11 November, 1918, reached them, but he was trans-shipped to SS Riverina on 28 November for home. He was discharged from Service on 13 December, 1918. It is interesting to note that although he never saw the war front or fired a single bullet, he was still awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-15 Star.
