Arthur Fenton was sent to Seymour, Victoria, to train with D Company, No. 1 Battalion, 88th Company. However, the discovery of a hernia on his right side and his admission that he had 'pains at time in right iguinal region on exertion', gained when lifting a wheelbarrow', meant that he was medically unfit.
