This is a permanent feature at the north east corner of Yarra Park. In the absence of signs and parking attendants, cars head up here to exit the park, find it is blocked, do hair raising circuits around this little tree and dodge other cars on the way back. Dangerous too!

Another bit of history in Yarra Park. This was the cabman's shelter which once stood opposite the Grand Hotel (now the Windsor Hotel and soon to be the Windsor Tower.) History under threat from all sides. Surely we are not barbarians.

The cabman's shelter is included in the Heritage Register of Victoria. So now is Yarra Park after a long struggle led by the National Trust.

Heritage registration or not, the cabman's shelter is a lonely little gem seen only by regular users of Yarra Park and the car drivers rushing off home from the footy.
